Gelato and Sorbet on a Sunny Day.

Nicole and Zack with their samples and stickers.

Nicole and Zack with their samples and stickers.

Today was a beautiful September. The skies were blue and the temperature was perfect. Lauren and I made a trip to Ciao Bella this morning to top off Penelope’s freezers for the weekend sampling. After we were fully loaded, we headed south. We had events in East Brunswick today at A&P and ShopRite.

We had some special visitors at our second event today. Nicole (if you keep up with our blogs, you know Nicole is one of our college roommates) came to visit, along with her boyfriend, Zack, and her parents. Our events were close to their house and they couldn’t pass up the opportunity to come see two of their favorite people…or to sample some gelato. Mrs. Maikisch was especially excited because she loves the Chocolate Alba Hazelnut. Of courses she sampled that one. Nicole tried the Blood Orange, and just like everyone else, she instantly became a fan. Zack had the Tahitian Vanilla. I thought his was a great choice because the Tahitian Vanilla is my favorite of the onese we are sampling.

Nicole and Zak both donned stickers and I made them pose for a picture with their samples and stickers, hence the picture above.

It was great seeing them again. We were really glad they were able to come see Penelope in action. They’ve heard lots of stories and seen lots of pictures, but today they actually got to meet her!

Make sure to come see us either tomorrow or Sunday. The East Coast Bella Girls and Penelope only have two more days left on the summer tour and we would really love to meet you and share Ciao Bella with you. We can’t wait to see you!

Ciao Bella Scoops available at JFK Airport!

Tuesday, September 15th, 2009

Ciao Bella is excited to announce that The Grove is now serving us at JFK airport in British Airways Terminal 7!JuicyJ preparing the samples.

JuicyJ and I were on-hand during the grand opening to pass out samples of our gelato and sorbet. We always love being able to share our yummy frozen treats with people that haven’t tried us and those that are already fans. We met one girl who loves Ciao Bella so much that she served us at her wedding! With 24 flavors to choose from it was hard to decide which ones to sample so we scooped them all. Among the favorites were Valrhona chocolate gelato, cookie dough gelato, key lime graham gelato, mango sorbet, raspberry sorbet and chocolate sorbet.

We were also there to speak to The Grove employees about Ciao Bella – our story, what is gelato/sorbet, etc. This is one of my favorite parts of new store openings. I always love being able to talk about Ciao Bella’s gelato and sorbet and seeing the excitement on the faces of the employees. Most people think that it is just like ice cream. True, gelato is ice cream, but Ciao Bella is unlike any other ice cream – creamy, dense, and oh so flavorful. Now you may think I am biased, but I was first a Ciao Bella fan (mint chocolate chip was my vice) and was lucky enough to become an employee who gets to enjoy free pint Fridays. :)

As part of training we always recommend that all employees try every flavor (unless they have a food allergy) that way he/she can speak to customers about each flavor with as much passion as the Bella Girls. One flavor that usually causes mouths to drop and eyes to bulge in amazement is mango sorbet. This time was no different. In fact, one of the employees noted that it was better than the mangoes from the farm from her native country, India. JuicyJ and I were thrilled to hear this! It’s no secret in Ciao Bella and among mango sorbet fans that this particular flavor is truly like eating a real mango, but to hear it directly from someone who was born and raised in the same country where we get our mango puree is so validating.

So if you are departing/arriving from JFK airport British Airways – Terminal 7 be sure to grab a scoop (or two or three) of Ciao Bella at The Grove.

Not flying through JFK? Check us out in Newark airport – Terminal C.

To help with your decision ask for a sample! Still undecided? Get more than one flavor.

Can't decide on a flavor? Get three!

Doesn't that just look yummy!

Passing out samples at Balducci's in Scarsdale, NY

Passing out samples at Balducci's in Scarsdale, NY

Lauren and I had a fantastic day! The sun was finally out again and it was warm. It was a perfect day for sampling.

It was also a fantastic day for me for another reason. My sister, Sam, and my brother, Jobe flew into NYC today! I haven’t seen them in almost four months, and I have been beside myself waiting on them to get here. We are all really close and I have missed them dearly.

We are going to spend my days off exploring the city. I’ve only actually stepped foot in New York City twice. The first was for dinner and a Broadway show and the second was the event we did for Fashion’s Night Out. I’m so excited to see the city and all it has to offer. If you have any suggestions as to what we should see and do I am all ears.

I hope everyone has a great start to the week. Lauren and I will be back in action on Thursday. Make sure to come see us at our events next week. It’s our last week and we want to give out all the gelato and sorbet happiness we can before this year’s tour ends!

Fashion to Football.

IMG_0704The East Coast Bella Girls spent the evening in the city for Fashion’s Night Out. This is a night where, according to fashionnightout.com, “American Vogue has joined with NYC & Company, the City of New York, and the Council of Fashion Designers of America to enliven again the consumer spirit that churns the economy and boosts the local industry of America’s fashion capital, New York City. Next only to finance, fashion is the second-largest sector of industry in New York City—the headquarters of more than 800 fashion companies employing 175,000 people and generating $10 billion in total wages. At City Hall’s May 20 press conference to announce Fashion’s Night Out, Vera Wang said, ‘To put it bluntly, if people don’t shop, people lose their jobs.’”

As we drove towards Grand Central Station we passed what looked like a main tent for fashion week. Similar to tents we have seen on various fashion shows on TLC, MTV and CW. As we pass we whip out our cameras hoping to catch a glimpse of the atmosphere, which honestly, words don’t quite do justice. Cameras flashing and filming everywhere, outfits that can’t not catch your eye and heels that can’t not help girls carry themselves with an air of femininity and style.

As we circle around Grand Central Station looking for the perfect runway for Penelope to make her fashion week debut, we move our focus from fashion and celebrities to the Ciao Bella Blood Orange carpet. Thanks to JuicyJ, Coconutkate and the Grand Central Bella Guys for making this event a successful one! Despite the cold wind gusts and light rain we had a constant group of new and established Ciao Bella lovers.

Elle and I made it back just in time to see the exciting Georgia Tech vs. Clemson game. Being graduates of the University of South Carolina, we are pretty much supporters of any team playing Clemson. GA Tech came through in the end and it was a glorious end to an already exciting day.

From fashion to football, stilettos to cleats, you can always count on the East Coast Bella Girls for our delicious treats!

Maplewood Memories

Sunday, September 6th, 2009

Lauren and I had a really busy event last night. We gave out over 400 samples. We were in Deborah’s hometown of Maplewood. It was a lot of fun for us. Deborah came to spend some more time with us.

After the event was over, we went to dinner with Deborah at a great Italian restaurant. It was so nice to be able to spend time with Deborah. We haven’t seen her much since the tour started and we really enjoyed catching up with her last night.

We are off for a few days. Lauren is flying to Charlotte to spend a few days with some of her friends. I am spending a few days with one of my college roommates, Nicole. I’m really excited because it’s been a long time since I’ve been able to spend time with the Maikisch family.

We hope everyone has a great Labor Day tomorrow. Be safe and enjoy some Ciao Bella! We’ll see you again Thursday.

Bella Girls Abound!

The East Coast Bella Girls' biggest fan.

The East Coast Bella Girls' biggest fan.

Since you’ve last tuned in Elle and I have had very eventful events! On Monday we had the pleasure of spending some of the day with Darryl, it was great to see you.

We then spent a couple of days of shopping, eating and movie-seeing around Morristown. We can’t get over how great it is to be able to walk everywhere! And yes, we saw 500 Days of Summer for the third time. Don’t judge us, we just know what we like. Not to mention what soundtracks we like. Any movie that has both Simon and Garfunkel, and Patrick Swayze’s “She’s like the wind,”  is ok by us!

Today was our first day back and it was abundant with Bella Girls! JuicyJ spent our first event with us and then CoconutKate joined for the second. It was great to see you both, thank you so much for your help!

I also feel that I need to report to you all that the Bella Girls have “made it.” How do I know this? I got asked for my autograph by a young strapping gentleman of about 7 years old who exclaimed  “I am huge fun of Ciao Bella!” It was great meeting you too!

So, appearances by the Bella Girls will now cost…. well nothing, but a taste of our gelato or sorbet! Remember to keep checking in on Facebook and Twitter for updates!

Fond Farewell, from the West Coast Bella Girls

That's a happy Bella Boy and Girl!

That's a happy Bella Boy and Girl!

It’s hard to believe that my sweetest summer has come to an end.  The last stop on the West Coast Gelatomobile tour was a back to school event on Sunday at the Whole Foods in Los Gatos, which was  a ton of fun and a huge success. And it seemed fitting that I closed out the tour running the event with Bill, since that’s also how the summer started!

I spent the morning cleaning out the truck – it’s amazing what the remnants of 3 months living out of a truck looks like!!…now I have to clean my living room floor! – and just got back from returning the truck to the San Francisco warehouse.  I am certain I’ll never again have a job that brings other people so much happiness, nor will I see as many smiles in the course of a day at work.

If I’ve learned one thing this summer, it is that: that a delicious treat brings smiles to the faces around you.  Keep that in mind this fall and winter: if you ever need to brighten a gray day, visit your nearest grocery store for a pint or several of Ciao Bella, and you’ll cheer up everyone around you, and yourself in the process!

Take care, and don’t forget to treat yourself!
xoxo,

Dream Ride.

Sunday, August 23rd, 2009

Part of the line.

Part of the line.

Today Lauren and I got to participate in a really great cause. We went to Dream Ride 2009 in Farmington, Connecticut. Dream Ride is an annual motorcycle ride to help benefit the Special Olympics.

We were welcomed to the event by some really great volunteers. They told us where we needed to go to set up. When we turned into the parking lot, we saw rows and rows of motorcycles and a huge American flag hanging from the ladder on a fire truck.

We parked beside the lunch tent and the Dodge Motorsports truck. This was a prime location for two reasons: 1. We caught everyone after lunch. They were definitely ready for some dessert, and 2.Penelope felt right at home (she is a Dodge Sprinter). I also enjoyed the location because I drive a Dodge Dakota, not to mention they had a black Challenger parked beside us (I really want a Challenger), but the best part was that we were parked beside Kasey Kahne’s racecar. He’s my favorite. He’s also my future husband, although he is not yet aware of that fact. Okay, that was a little more than two, but you get the picture.

We are so glad we were able to be a part of today’s event. It is such a good cause, and we met a lot of really great people. We passed out samples for about four hours today. We had a non-stop line. That is no exaggeration. We passed out a total of 1488 samples. If I did the math correctly, I think that is about 372 samples an hour. We only passed out 1488 samples because that’s all the freezers hold. We wish we had more freezer space so we could have passed out samples for four more hours.

We met some people who already know and love Ciao Bella. We also met a lot of people who had never heard of us before. We were immediately asked where the product was available.

Thanks to everyone who came out and supported the event today. You really are making a big difference in the lives of a lot of people. It was such a privilege to be in involved in Dream Ride. We can’t wait for next year’s event.

P.S. Make sure to visit facebook.com/ciaobella to see all the pictures from today’s event.

Mom and daughter enjoying a refreshing Alphonso Mango sorbet on a hot New Jersey Wednesday.

Mom and daughter enjoying a refreshing Alphonso Mango sorbet on a hot New Jersey Wednesday.

Lauren and I are finally back home. We left Long Island yesterday, headed for New Jersey. Our first stop when we got to Jersey was Ciao Bella. We had to take Penelope by to stock the freezers so we’d be ready for the week. While we were there we visited with our Ciao Bella family. It has been a while since we’ve seen them and it was great to catch up. We have really missed everyone.

After leaving Ciao Bella we headed for Lauren’s dad’s apartment. We are so grateful to him for letting us stay with him. We’ve been in hotels for about nine weeks now and it’s great to finally have a home to go to. We have a kitchen and a laundry facility at our fingertips. We no longer have to lug our laundry bags down multiple floors and endless hallways. We also get Bravo again. While in Boston we became addicted to Bravo, but were deprived in Rhode Island, Connecticut and Long Island.

It’s also great to be with friends and family again. We get to stay with Lauren’s dad and we are also just a few minutes away from Lauren’s friend, Nora, and one of our college roommates, Nicole.

We had a great first day in New Jersey. We were welcomed with open arms by A&P, Kings and all the shoppers. We gave out over 400 samples today, and in true East Coast Sampling Tour fashion, Chocolate Alba Hazelnut was the most popular flavor. We can’t wait to see what the rest of the tour holds. We’ll be here for a while so make sure you come see us at our events. We want to pass out all the gelato and sorbet happiness we can!

Our sweet spot at the Metropolitan Market!

Today was the West Coast Bella Girls’ last day in both Washington and in the Pacific Northwest.  We spent the day at two Metropolitan Markets, a fantastic chain that I had actually never visited before.  If you haven’t, you should check them out – it’s a great market, and they have a nice selection of Ciao Bella, which, by now has become clear to me, is an indicator of a good store!  Plus, at the afternoon store, we were able to pull right up on the sidewalk, near their adjustable umbrellas and their flower selection – it was probably our best set up of the whole summer, and was nice to close out our northern swing with a bang!

We’ll be on the road for the next two days, headed back to the Bay Area, and then have two days off for an old friend’s wedding.  I’ll be back on Sunday for the last event of the West Coast Tour – I can’t believe it’s ending so soon.  See you then!
